Yasutaka Nakano is Clinical Professor of Respiratory Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Shiga University of Medical Science, Japan.
He graduated from Kyoto University, Japan and received M.D. degree. After finishing his residency and fellowship in respiratory medicine at Kyoto University, he earned his Ph.D. from Kyoto University.
He worked as a post-doctoral fellow and as a research associate at University of British Columbia, Vancouver, B.C., Canada. His research interests include the relationship between structure and function of the lung, quantitative CT analysis of the lung, and clinical problems in lung diseases, especially in COPD. He is serving as the head of Respiratory Structure and Function Assembly of the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR).

Yoshiharu Ohno, M.D., Ph.D. is currently as Professor of Radiology in Kobe University Graduate of Medicine. He is also appointed to General Manager of Advanced Biomedical Imaging Research Center, and Directors of Functional and Diagnostic Imaging Research and Division of Thoracic Imaging in Department of Radiology at same university.
He graduated Kobe University School of Medicine in 1993, and finished post graduate training at Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine in 1998.
He is the active and board member of many international and domestic societies such as The Fleischner Society, Japanese Society of Radiology, Japanese Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, and Japanese Society of Thoracic Radiology.

Reynold A. Panettieri

Reynold A. Panettieri, Jr, M.D., earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed his internship and residency in medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he also obtained specialty training in pulmonary diseases. He then joined the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania, where he is currently a tenured Professor of Medicine and was awarded the Robert L. Mayock and David A. Cooper endowed professorship. Dr. Panettieri is also Adjunct Professor at the Wistar Institute. He is currently the Director of the Airways Biology Initiative and Deputy Director of the Center of Excellence in Environmental Toxicology at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, and Director of the Comprehensive Asthma Program of the University of Pennsylvania Health System.

Dr. Panettieri was the principal investigator for several National Institutes of Health-sponsored grants, including an Asthma SCOR Award, focusing on airway smooth muscle function in asthma and the molecular and cellular mechanisms of airway smooth muscle function and growth. He is now director of a program project grant examining novel approaches in modulating GPCR function. He is the author of over 410 publications, including peer-reviewed research articles, reviews, chapters and abstracts, and serves on the editorial board of the American Journal of Physiology and Thorax. Dr. Panettieri is a co-editor-in-chief of Respiratory Research, an editor of the British Journal of Pharmacology and an associate editor of the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology. He also reviews for 10 prominent journals in physiology, clinical immunology, allergy, and medicine and has given over 220 lectures and coordinated 30 symposia on topics in his specialty area.

Dr. Panettieri is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the Robert E. Cooke Memorial Lectureship at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Annual Meeting, the Joseph R. Rodarte Award from the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and several honorary memberships, including membership in the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Association of American Physicians, the National Asthma Education Program of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. He is also an active member of numerous national professional and scientific societies, including the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society and the ATS Respiratory Structure and Function Assembly. In 2013, he was elected Chairman of the ATS Respiratory Structure and Function Assembly.

Dr. Panettieri remains dedicated to educating the public about asthma. To this end, he serves as director of the Adult Asthma Patient Education Program in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Asthma Task Force, the Allies Against Asthma, and the Attack Asthma Program sponsored by the American Lung Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Dr. James Michael (Mike) Wells, MD is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and also serves as the Associate Director for the Intensive Care Unit at the Birmingham VA Medical Center. He earned a MD degree from the University of Texas at Houston and completed post-graduate training in internal medicine as well as pulmonary and critical care medicine at UAB. Dr. Wells is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine. His main research interests include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), focusing specifically on inflammation, pulmonary vascular disease, and exacerbations. Dr. Wells has co-authored multiple research and review articles in peer-reviewed journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet Respiratory Medicine, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and Chest.
His research is supported through a K08 Mentored Scientist Career Development Award through the National Institutes of Health. He is the principal investigator for clinical and translational trials through the UAB Lung Health Center focusing on identifying new pathways and treatments in combined COPD-pulmonary hypertension.

Robert A. Wise

Robert A. Wise, M.D. is a Professor of Medicine (Pulmonary and Critical Care) at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, and completed his residency and fellowship training at the University of Michigan and Johns Hopkins. He has been an investigator in a number of multi-site clinical trials of COPD, asthma, and interstitial lung disease sponsored by the NIH. He is the Director of the Data Coordinating Center for the American Lung Association Asthma Clinical Research Centers. He is actively involved in research on the treatment, epidemiology, and clinical physiology of COPD, asthma, and lung disorders associated with connective tissue diseases. He has published more than 300 scientific articles and 50 book chapters.

Dr. Woodruff is a Professor of Medicine, in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep and Allergy and in the Cardiovascular Research Institute at UCSF. He is currently Vice Chief for Research in the Pulmonary Division and Associate Director of the UCSF Airway Clinical Research Center. He obtained his MD from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and an MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital and a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at UCSF. He undertook postgraduate research training at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and at UCSF. He was elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation in 2012.

Sang-Do Lee

Sang-Do Lee is professor of medicine in the Department of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, Asan Medical Center, Seoul, Korea.
Professor Lee earned his medical degree from the Seoul National University College of Medicine in 1982, and subsequently underwent general internal medicine and pulmonary medicine training at the Seoul National University Hospital. From 1996 to 1997, he was a visiting professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, CO, USA. Professor Lee earned his MS degree from the Seoul National University in 1989, and his PhD in 1991. He has taught at the Chungbuk National University, Cheongju, and has taught at the University of Ulsan since 1995. He is a director of the clinical research center for chronic obstructive airway diseases, funded by the government, since 2004. He has organized and is running an annual international symposium on airway disease (“Airway Vista”) and ANOLD (Asian Network for Obstructive Airway Diseases) since 2008.
Professor Lee is a widely published investigator, with over 280 peer-reviewed articles to his name. He has been an editor-in-chief of 'Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases'.

Jin Hwa Lee, MD, PhD

Dr. Lee is a physician in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital and Professor of Medicine at Ewha Womans University School of Medicine. She did a post-doctoral fellowship in the Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto in Canada in 2001. Since 2004, she has been an active researcher of the Korean Obstructive Lung Disease (KOLD) Cohort study. Her research has focused on phenotypic heterogeneity and subtyping of COPD. In 2013, she studied genetic epidemiology of COPD and joined COPDGene Study as a visiting scholar in the Channing Division of Network Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She is working to expand her field into genetic heterogeneity of COPD, which is a major determinant of COPD heterogeneity and a guide to a new disease classification. She has published more than 90 peer-reviewed articles.
